I grew up in a rural environment but somehow got trapped in a big city. My cowboy certs are pretty short. I do volunteer work on trail and road clearing and also paid work in the same area for a large ranch in Central AZ. This is the lifestyle that keeps me sane while working a weekday job in the city.
I get to interact with a lot of cowboys and ranchers, and think they are the last real, true people out there. No superficiality or b.s. attitude like people in any major metro area.
Besides my trail work, I also have2 twenty acre mining claims and am also into studying the pioneer history of the area where I work (and there’s a lot of it to learn).
I am politically liberal but own guns (go figure!) but don’t hunt.... I have a thirteen year old 4x4 pickup that I will never trade, and pretty much am addicted to either classic or alternative rock.

I was raised in a rural area where agriculture was part of everyone’s life. It is the values and masculinity that comes from that environment that I still find appealing. Men looked a certain way and that was not designer labels or funny looking shoes but Wranglers and boots that you could work in. Dressing up was your new starched pair with shined boots. Is it being a cowboy or is it a simple way at looking at life? Everyone took care of animals because that was part of putting food on the table. My Dad broke horses when he was young but he considered them an expense we could not afford. I never owned a horse but many friends did. Raising horses was usually a hobby in which parents spent time with their kids and rodeos/fairs was a chance to show and possible make some money from your hobby. Again it is about life values and the appearance that I have associated to it. Plus I like wearing plaid shirts and nothing makes a man’s butt look better than a pair of Wranglers! Sorry had to break it up as I was getting too serious.

I am not a cowboy, but I’m learning more about cowboys, and this culture. Specifically, I’m getting into country dancing and learning how to impress a guy with my moves. :) Also, my grandparents owned their own farm in mexico, and for me this experience is getting to know my family’s past a little bit more. Seeing the similarities and differences of Mexican and American country life is very enjoyable and insightful, for me. I like this lifestyle, it’s very soothing to me, and it’s a welcome change to the big city environment in which I grew up in.

I've always had the romanticized stereotype in my head of the hot, lean, muscled cowboy on a horse riding up to the waterhole after a hard days work. He strips and dives in to the water to cool off.
I have this perception of cowboys as Honest, hard working, in tune with nature and animals - and sexy! The irony is I don't actually know any - but I'd like to.

If a hat makes you a cowboy, I'm not THAT desperate ... thanks anyway ... although I do look pretty good in a hat ..[----]e to think of it ... maybe I could wear yours ..... I'm a rural man who has been imprisoned in an urban area all my life ... Woulda moved to a rural area long ago if it weren't for fear of being outed in a small town .. Hetero's are people too, and that's what scares me .. I did start out on a ranch in Clovis California, but then the divorce came, and that's how I ended up here ... in, ironically, a place known as a cowtown called Sacramento ... we even have cowbells that are quite famous (for disrupting basketball games). Most of our "cowboys" here are unfortunately of the urban kind a la John Travolta - the real1s moved on long ago .. to places east in the Sierras, Nevada, Idaho, and of course, Wyoming ...

Whereas I am not an active cowboy myself, I have been amid a rural and western environment a good deal of my life. Each year, I volunteer at the MGRA Rodeo and have a deep respect for those who are still "taming the west".

I find the cowboy attractive because of the masculine ruggedness of the character. The boots, hat, straight jeans, flannel shirt - great!! A nice moustache, beard, hairy chest would just complete the picture! The fact that they might be involved with nature, animals would also be a plus. I grew up in that environment and still like it.

Always had a thing for a man in a tight pair of wranglers! Born into a ranching family, moved to Dallas to see the sights. Moved back, decided I fit better in a more laid back environment.
