Very enthusiastic group of rodeo people in Austin, obviously proud of being part of TGRA. However, I was surprised to find no dancing at the rodeo grounds. A dance floor would have made a nice addition, especially since this was the 25th anniversary.

The rodeo has been fun and the crowds are smaller and there are fewer vendors than in the past but it still is a good rodeo. Hope everyone else is having fun.

Great Rodeo, some hot cowboys, perfect weather. Pool parties were nice. Needed to coordinate the events just a little better to not conflict with each other...example Dance comp. and pool party. Also need to have more incentive to attract people to watch or attend the Rodeo events..shows, more vendors,workshops, Dance lessons. Overall great event, but if TGRA is going to attract the dance community to participate in conjuction with the Rodeo, the coordinators/Directors need to include them in the planning. This could be an awesome event and more participation by both worlds.

Very enjoyable, great crowd. Room for improvement: the bleachers were not large enough for the crowd. I ended up standing most of Saturday because the bleachers are uncomfortable and too crowded. Also, it would be more enjoyable if it were indoors.

any other hotels near the wyndham. already tried to make resevation there but booked up. so anything close by where others staying that are attending the rodeo

There are TONS of hotels about a mile south of the Wyndham. There are two Marriott brand hotels, an Omni, Candlewood Suites and a La Quinta. There is also a La Quinta just north of the Wyndham.

Rooms at the Host Hotel were still available as of Friday August 17. However, you must call the hotel directly (and not Wyndham National) at 512-448-2444 and mention TGRA to book a room.

I just made my reservation at the host hotel. Called hotel directly. The young lady at the hotel said there were still rooms but not many. She said they were half way through the rooms alotted for the event. There is also a big UT game that weekend and this hotel is going fast due to that event also.

There will be a lot going on around the rodeo at the host hotel as well. There is a pool party on Friday from 1p-4p and a pool party on Saturday hosted by the Heart of Texas Bears from 5p-9p. There will be shuttle busses running from the host hotel to the sponsor bars from 10p-2:30a Fri/Sat nights. Just checked the hotel and there are a few rooms left but call them directly and mention TGRA.

The rodeo is the same weekend as a University of Texas home football game against Rice that has the kick-off time set for 6 PM so please understand that there will be lots of traffic heading towards downtown around the time the rodeo ends Saturday afternoon. So become familiar with alternate routes to the host hotel and downtown so you can easily get to either one.
However, there are lots of nice guys who come to the football games so those guys who are single might meet a nice guy while visiting Austin.

Hello! I am a graduate film student at UT Austin and am making a short documentary about gay rodeo. I have been trying to contact the IGRA and the TGRA to get permission to film at the Capitol City Rodeo, but have not been able to get in touch with anyone. I am writing to the list to see if anyone knows who might be planning the rodeo here in Austin, and whom I might be able to talk to. I am also looking for subjects for the film, so if anyone on the list lives in Austin and is participating in the rodeo, or knows someone who does who might be interested in speaking with me, I would love to hear back from you.
