My Oh shit’ moment
Guys, after years of suppressing an attraction to guys, something got me thinking about the first moment many years ago when I realized that I could be running on a dual track. It occurred to me that if I could express it here, learn how other dudes came to that realization and dealt with it, it might help get to some measure of self acceptance. I not, well hell, I tried. It was winter and we had a steep sliding hill that started in the woods and ran right next to the side of the house. I clearly recall being 13 and in 8th grade, watching my best friend and neighbor down the road (age 14) come down the hill and getting stiff when he flew by on his sled. I stood there and the thoughts ran through my head like an out of control freight train: Oh shit. NO! Why me? No way! Does he feel the same way?! Shit! shit! Shit! This ain’t happening, not if I can help it!!! I went on to fall in and out of love with girls, while periodically and at the same time being abushed with mancrushes in high school and college. Eventually fell into real love, married, raised a family. Never have really acted on the SSA, just did a lot of sublimation and suppression. Strike a cord with anyone else?
