No moon and the stars were rapidly being covered by a blanket of thin clouds in advance of a thunderstorm a county away... then... he heard them... He held his breath in the late night air as the distingushing sounds of roaring hooves became louder and louder,... but he could see no shadows, no vague reference of form, only his sense of sound was with him in that moment. Great Horned Owls stopped there coordinated calls along the creek, loons didn't laugh in the branches of the Ash tree, Mom bobcat was quiet for the moment at calling her young. Martin listened as his steed 'Aeroman' came full bolt in pitch dark towards the source of that Bob White call.... This was a moment...he would recall for all his time.... his connection to the soul of the Earth was racing toward him in the total darkness. Martin didn't move. A moment passed,.. dirt flew and hit the ground...and then!... To a dead stop... Aeroman slid to within arm's length of Martin's face. Breathy, his trail partner blatted to clear his nose. Martin put out his hand and slid along the face and neck to the shoulder of the Red Sorrel and he began to breeth again... The2 walked back to the corral at the home place and met up with Gilbert whom was in the barn rasping down a mare's hoof.... "See ya found him" Gilbert said. Martin smiled and torted, "No, pretty much the other way around." Martin put his hand on Gilbert's shoulder and pulled him in close to his chest. Gilbert chuckled and said "What's up man?".... Martin gazed into his eyes and quipped "This is a great life I have here"...
